PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark DeLuca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sammy Stein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think DeLuca might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Welcome To The Jungle. Sammy Stein is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mark DeLuca!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sammy Stein!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Jorge Garcia and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
DeLuca tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stein paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Stein bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on DeLuca's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
DeLuca is looking to reverse the position.
DeLuca tries to escape but Stein is in control.
DeLuca tries to buck Stein off but Stein is having none of it.
Stein content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
DeLuca tries to control but Stein manages to take his back.
Stein scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. DeLuca is looking for a way out.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Stein's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
DeLuca breaks Stein's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

DeLuca avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Stein looking to hit a scissor sweep but DeLuca is one step ahead there.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
DeLuca wants to control from the top but Stein keeps moving.
Stein wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stein keeping moving, preventing DeLuca from controlling successfully.
DeLuca controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
DeLuca tries to clinch but Stein moves out of range.
DeLuca scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

DeLuca misses with a takedown

and Stein counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in DeLuca's guard now.
DeLuca is breathing heavily.
Stein trying to control the position from guard on top but DeLuca is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

DeLuca has his foot on Stein's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Stein works his way back into a safe position though.
Stein sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed DeLuca's guard.

Stein wants to work for an arm triangle but DeLuca is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
DeLuca wants to improve his position but Stein is controlling well.
Stein is taking a breather. DeLuca says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

DeLuca moves into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
DeLuca wants to sweep here but Stein controlling him for the moment.
Stein stops DeLuca from standing up.
DeLuca is trying to control the position but Stein postures up.
DeLuca is controlling Stein's posture.

DeLuca wants to stand but Stein is controlling the position.
DeLuca looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sammy Stein dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

DeLuca wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
DeLuca tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Stein smiles and moves away.

and Stein counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Stein is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Stein won't allow DeLuca to sweep him here.

Stein stands up from DeLuca's guard - Stein perhaps looking for a knockout.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Stein tries to keep at a distance but DeLuca has taken the fight into the clinch.
DeLuca drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Stein gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Stein breaks the clinch.

Stein clinches up with DeLuca and pushes him back against the cage.
DeLuca lands a damaging elbow.

Stein jumps into guard, dragging DeLuca to the mat.
DeLuca thows a big elbow that misses.
DeLuca preventing the sweep.
Stein wants to stand and escape but DeLuca is having none of it.

DeLuca wants to stand but Stein has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
DeLuca is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
DeLuca wants to stand but Stein is controlling his posture from full guard.
DeLuca lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Sammy Stein has got the better of the ground game so far.

DeLuca gets to his feet. Stein looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

DeLuca controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
DeLuca wants to control from the top but Stein keeps moving.
DeLuca pushes down on Stein's leg and manages to get into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Sammy Stein will probably get the nod - 10:9.

DeLuca thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

DeLuca is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
DeLuca is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Stein is controlling him.

DeLuca has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Stein can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Stein forces his way into half guard.
Stein is keen to just control but DeLuca is a slippery customer.
DeLuca tries to roll over but Stein keeps him under control.
DeLuca is trying to maintain the position but Stein is very close to passing his half guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

DeLuca wants to stand but Stein is controlling the position.

Stein is posturing up here but DeLuca has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Stein tries to roll out but it's too tight and Stein has to tap! Slick submission there by DeLuca!
