Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Darrell Rutledge!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Jacob!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Sergei Dronov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jacob fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Jacob avoids a punch combination nicely.
Rutledge connects with a jab.

Rutledge scores with a jab to the jaw.
Rutledge is looking to land body kicks.
Darrell Rutledge seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rutledge cracks the inside of Jacob's front leg.
Rutledge misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Rutledge displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Jacob avoids the head kick by Rutledge.
Rutledge tries to score with a low kick but Jacob moves his leg out of the way.
Rutledge lands with a nice combination. Jacob backs away looking to recover.
A clash of legs there as Rutledge blocks the low kick.
Jacob connects with a looping right hand.

Rutledge bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Rutledge will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rutledge is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jacob knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Rutledge grinds an elbow into Jacob's temple.

Rutledge has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Jacob takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Rutledge is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Jacob can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Rutledge looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Rutledge has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Jacob is looking to get to half guard.
Jacob is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Rutledge has hold of Jacob's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Jacob manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Jacob really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rutledge. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jacob takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Rutledge breaks from Jacob's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Rutledge lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Jacob wants to hold on but Rutledge pushes him away.

Rutledge moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Jacob has worked his arm free - good work by Jacob!
Jacob is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Rutledge works to advance to full mount. Jacob defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rutledge is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Jacob can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Rutledge is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Jacob won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Rutledge off his unconscious opponent!
