PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lenny Matt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deon Fernandez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Matt might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to "Wake Up! Wake Up!" by Me Talk Pretty. The key to victory for Lenny Matt has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lenny Matt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Deon Fernandez!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, John Mangel and Skip Squint.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fernandez misses with a takedown attempt - Matt sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Fernandez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Matt looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
You can see the frustration on Matt's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Matt is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Fernandez is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Fernandez works to advance to full mount. Matt defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Matt postures up in Fernandez's guard and throws a big left but Fernandez blocks it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Matt is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Fernandez has his foot on Matt's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Matt works his way back into a safe position though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Matt - that will leave a mark!

Matt closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Matt lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fernandez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Matt gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Fernandez is looking for a triangle but Matt pushes his legs off easily.

Matt has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Matt is working Fernandez over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Matt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fernandez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Fernandez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Matt doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Fernandez is tightening it up a little... Matt has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Matt reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Matt taps out! nice BJJ there by Fernandez!
