PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bert Ernie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roger Rabbit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 34 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Bert Ernie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roger Rabbit!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ernie manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Rabbit on his heels. He'll look to pass Rabbit's guard now, I'm sure.
Rabbit controls Ernie momentarily but Ernie frees himself.
Rabbit really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ernie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ernie stands and throws Rabbit's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Rabbit is looking for a sweep.

Ernie tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Rabbit stops Ernie from passing to mount.
Ernie cracks Rabbit with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Ernie working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rabbit manages to work his way to half guard, despite Ernie's best efforts.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ernie is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Ernie is looking for a kimura but Rabbit is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ernie to get the leverage.

Ernie looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Ernie is nestled in close to Rabbit, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Ernie moves into full mount! Rabbit won't be happy about that!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rabbit is looking to get to half guard.

Ernie goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Rabbit turns into him and now he's in Ernie's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ernie controls Rabbit momentarily but Rabbit frees himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rabbit won't allow Ernie to sweep him here.
Rabbit postures up.
Rabbit working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Ernie seems keen to control Rabbit's posture.
Rabbit trying to control but Ernie is working from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Bert Ernie.

Ernie feints and as Rabbit raises his hands in defense, Ernie changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ernie trying to control the position from guard on top but Rabbit is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ernie is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Ernie passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Rabbit can't do much from the bottom here.
Rabbit is not content to let Ernie control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rabbit is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bert Ernie dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nice takedown defense from Rabbit. No joy for Ernie on that attempt.
Rabbit misses with a low kick.
Ernie tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rabbit sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ernie somewhat.
Ernie tries to close the distance and clinch but Rabbit swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ernie slips under a jab.
Ernie fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bert Ernie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rabbit tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ernie was well out of range. Poor timing from Rabbit.
Bert Ernie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ernie scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Rabbit throws a hook to the side of Ernie's head but Ernie sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Ernie doesn't manage to clinch there - Rabbit circles away.
Ernie shoots in but no luck this time.
Rabbit leaves Ernie with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Ernie closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ernie tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Rabbit is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rabbit is not content to let Ernie control the position.
Ernie will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Ernie is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Rabbit knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Rabbit can't do much from the bottom here.
Ernie wants to take a breather but Rabbit manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Ernie.
Ernie is standing up over Rabbit. Rabbit looks to escape but Ernie dives into side control.
Bert Ernie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ernie trying to control the action but Rabbit is working from the bottom.

Ernie swings around for an armbar but Rabbit sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Ernie's guard.
Ernie keeping full guard, as Rabbit tries to pass.
Rabbit wants to control from the top but Ernie keeps moving.

Ernie is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Rabbit has his hands clasped together but Ernie extends an breaks Rabbit's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Ernie.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Bert Ernie!
