PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marian Krupnik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gustavo Koenig (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Krupnik might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Dreadnoughts - Sleep is for the Weak. On his way into the cage it seems that Marian Krupnik has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Marian Krupnik seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marian Krupnik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gustavo Koenig!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Patrick Alders and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Krupnik swings widly with a right hand
and Koenig counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Krupnik with a poor takedown

and Koenig counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Krupnik tries to get to full guard but Koenig has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Koenig seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Koenig looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Krupnik with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Koenig is nestled in close to Krupnik, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Krupnik makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Krupnik.

Koenig trying to control but Krupnik is working from the bottom.

Krupnik has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Koenig can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Koenig landing some decent shots from guard.
Koenig prevents Krupnik from getting back to his feet.

Koenig postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Krupnik is looking to stand up but Koenig isn't so interested in that idea.

Koenig looking to sit in guard and control but Krupnik gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Koenig escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Krupnik gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Krupnik trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Koenig pulls Krupnik in close to prevent any damage.
Krupnik throws a big right hand that misses.
Koenig tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Koenig can do anything to dispel that myth.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Krupnik wants to stand and escape but instead Koenig has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Krupnik is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Krupnik working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Koenig doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Koenig manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Koenig has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Krupnik is looking to stand up but Koenig isn't so interested in that idea.

Krupnik wants to get back to his feet.

Krupnik avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Koenig.
Koenig trying to control from Krupnik's half guard. Krupnik has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Krupnik has momentary wrist control but Koenig slips an elbow through the middle.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Krupnik is rocked!
Krupnik trying to keep a closed guard but Koenig is proving a slippery customer.
Koenig is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Koenig distracts Krupnik with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Krupnik looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gustavo Koenig dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Koenig swats away the attempt to clinch by Krupnik.
Koenig lunges at Krupnik with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Krupnik's hand.

and Koenig counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Koenig passes Krupnik's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Koenig working over Krupnik with some ground and pound. Krupnik looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Gustavo Koenig has got the better of the ground game so far.

Oh Krupnik is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Koenig scores with a big shot! Krupnik's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Krupnik! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gustavo Koenig!
A relieved looking Gustavo Koenig thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
