Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Barao!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Great Smith!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Sosuke Kotani.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith fails with an attempt to clinch.
Smith closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Smith seems to be working for a kimura but Barao defends the submission attempt.
Smith missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Smith scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Smith is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Barao is just riding it out for now. Smith eventually gives up the hold.
Barao avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Smith.
Barao is concentrating on defense, preventing Smith from advancing position.
Smith landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Smith slips a nice elbow through Barao's hands, connecting with Barao's forehead.
Smith is nestled in close to Barao, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Smith prevents Barao from improving his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith working over Barao with some ground and pound. Barao looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Smith thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Barao's head.
Smith slips a nice elbow through Barao's hands, connecting with Barao's forehead.
Barao is breathing heavily.
Smith is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Smith sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Barao defending well though.
Smith trying to advance position but Barao counters by regaining guard.
Smith is looking to work some ground and pound but Barao has wrist control.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Smith throws a big elbow that misses.
Smith lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Smith stands and throws Barao's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Smith is chipping away with strikes.
Barao taking a bit of punishment here - Smith scoring with strikes.
Barao tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smith wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Smith in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Barao is looking for a sweep.
Smith is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Barao looks calm but he's in trouble here. Smith gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Barao is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Smith lets go of the hold and Barao can pop his arm back in it's socket.
