The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cormier tries to clinch up

and Severn counters with a single leg into guard. Cormier didn't expect that.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Severn has eaten all the pies!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Severn throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cormier works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Cormier wants to get back to his feet but Severn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Cormier keeping moving, preventing Severn from controlling successfully.

Severn wants to pass the guard but Cormier is keeping the position.
Cormier on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cormier tries to get out of the position.

Severn thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Severn sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cormier's guard.
Severn seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Severn moves nicely into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cormier is trying to buck Severn off.

Severn is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Cormier looks calm but he's in trouble here. Severn gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Cormier is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Severn lets go of the hold and Cormier can pop his arm back in it's socket.
