PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Braddock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Tolbowl (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Braddock comes to the cage accompanied by Bulls on Parade - Rage against the machine. Tolbowl has chosen Do Da Stanky Leg as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Braddock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matt Tolbowl!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Summer Carpenter and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Braddock keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Tolbowl walks into a straight right hand from Braddock.
James Braddock seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Braddock cracks Tolbowl with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Braddock rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Tolbowl makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Tolbowl closes the distance and clinches up with Braddock, looking for a takedown. Tolbowl pushes Braddock against the cage but Braddock circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nice body punch from Braddock.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Tolbowl.
Tolbowl with the ground and pound but Braddock regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Tolbowl is trying to control. Braddock wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Tolbowl thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Braddock's head.
Braddock is trying to control but can't.
Tolbowl is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Braddock reverses the position - he's now on top in Tolbowl's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Tolbowl throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Tolbowl is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Braddock wants to control from the top but Tolbowl keeps moving.

Braddock avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Tolbowl is looking for a triangle but Braddock pushes his legs off easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Braddock accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Tolbowl looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Tolbowl wants to sweep here but Braddock controlling him for the moment.
Braddock wants to control from the top but Tolbowl keeps moving.

Tolbowl isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Braddock stacks Tolbowl on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Braddock!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tolbowl tries to improve position but can't.
Tolbowl seems a little lost for a moment, as Braddock dominates the positioning.
Tolbowl is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Braddock trying to control the action but Tolbowl is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tolbowl tries to improve position but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Braddock is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Tolbowl's shoulder. That is not cool.
Tolbowl manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Braddock regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Tolbowl.
Braddock looking to control.
Tolbowl throws a big right hand that misses.
Braddock will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Tolbowl throwing strikes but missing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Braddock looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Tolbowl working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that James Braddock will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Braddock throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Tolbowl changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Braddock tries to avoid it but Tolbowl manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Braddock to the ground. Braddock escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Braddock misses the jab.
A left lands for Braddock.
Tolbowl throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Tolbowl takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Braddock scores with a jab to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Braddock throws a wild body kick that Tolbowl sees coming a mile off.
Braddock is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Tolbowl is looking to chop away at Braddock's legs.
Braddock connects with a good right hand that stumbles Tolbowl. Tolbowl circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Tolbowl uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Braddock.
Braddock is looking to slow Tolbowl down with leg kicks.
Braddock leaves Tolbowl with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tolbowl slips under a jab.
Braddock is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Braddock throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Tolbowl stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Braddock keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Tolbowl tries to land a front kick but Braddock steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
James Braddock is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Tolbowl motions for Braddock to come forward. Tolbowl throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Tolbowl swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Braddock counters with a nice uppercut.
A jab lands there for Braddock.
Jab, jab by Braddock - just one landing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Braddock throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Tolbowl's head.


Tolbowl is rocked!
Braddock drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Tolbowl right on the button. Tolbowl goes down! Braddock follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Braddock gets the win via TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Braddock!
In his post fight interview, James Braddock gave a big smile as he said 'This fight isn't the one that matters. I'm thankful I won, but it isn't the one that matters.'.
