PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mick Outbackerson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Prince Tan Gapuz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Prince Tan Gapuz was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mick Outbackerson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Prince Tan Gapuz!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Eliza Hachem and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Outbackerson swats away the attempt to clinch by Gapuz.

Outbackerson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Gapuz looking for a sweep. Not yet Gapuz, not yet.
Outbackerson wants to pass the guard but Gapuz is keeping the position.

Gapuz looking for a guillotine here but Outbackerson defends easily.

Gapuz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Outbackerson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Outbackerson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Outbackerson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Gapuz has Outbackerson up against the cage in a clinch.

Gapuz wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Gapuz wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Outbackerson has him pressed against the cage.

Outbackerson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Gapuz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Outbackerson.

Outbackerson feints and as Gapuz raises his hands in defense, Outbackerson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Outbackerson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gapuz with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gapuz wants to control but Outbackerson is keeping busy.

Outbackerson gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Gapuz misses with a double jab.

Gapuz shoots and misses

and Outbackerson counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Gapuz!
Outbackerson lands a big shot there that rocks Gapuz but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Outbackerson lands a nice shot to the head.
Outbackerson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Outbackerson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Outbackerson wants to control the pace but Gapuz is squirming around nicely.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Outbackerson cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Gapuz is trying to escape the mount.
Outbackerson pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Outbackerson is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gapuz has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Outbackerson goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Gapuz turns into him and now he's in Outbackerson's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Outbackerson has his foot on Gapuz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gapuz works his way back into a safe position though.

Outbackerson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Outbackerson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gapuz's guard.
Outbackerson makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Outbackerson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Outbackerson is working Gapuz over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Outbackerson forces his way into half guard.
Outbackerson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Gapuz!

And that's the end of the fight!
Mick Outbackerson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Outbackerson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
