The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Saam Ante and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Decent striking displayed by Overeem there.

Pound has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Overeem is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Overeem on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Overeem tries to get out of the position.

It looks like Pound might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

It looks like Alistair Overeem has been cut.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pound is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Pound slips a nice elbow through Overeem's hands, connecting with Overeem's forehead.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Pound working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pound has picked Overeem up - he's going for a ride! Pound dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Pound is nestled in close to Overeem, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.


Alistair Overeem's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Overeem knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pound on the ground.
