Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Spartacus Gladiator (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Spartacus Gladiator!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Williams!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Hugh Johnson and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Williams looking to score a takedown here. Gladiator is defending well but Williams drives through and ends up in Gladiator's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Williams's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Gladiator is looking to stand up but Williams isn't so interested in that idea.
Williams working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Gladiator's head.
Gladiator wants to get back to his feet but Williams is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Williams's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Williams stands and steps away. Gladiator gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Gladiator looks to clinch

and Williams counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Williams is controlling the pace.
Williams wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gladiator keeps working.
Williams working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Williams stands up from half guard.
Williams fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Gladiator tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Williams counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Williams passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gladiator trying to remain calm as Williams controls from the top position.
Williams trying to control the position but Gladiator is working away.

Williams decides to stand up, so the ref orders Gladiator to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gladiator closes the distance but Williams moves to the side

and Williams decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gladiator's guard.
Gladiator is looking to stand up but Williams isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Williams is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Williams trying to control but Gladiator is working from the bottom.
Williams prevents Gladiator from getting back to his feet.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Joe Williams wasn't active enough on the ground.
Gladiator closes the distance looking to clinch

and Williams counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Gladiator is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Williams is controlling him.
Gladiator is breathing heavily.
Gladiator is looking to stand back up but Williams counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Gladiator.
Williams perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Williams working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Williams performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Gladiator wants to get back to his feet.
Williams perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Williams wants to take a breather but Gladiator is having none of it.
Williams has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Williams tries to pass to full mount but Gladiator defends it.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Joe Williams hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Gladiator enables Williams to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Gladiator manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Gladiator wants to stand up but Williams is controlling him.
Gladiator keeping moving, preventing Williams from controlling successfully.
Williams postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Williams is pushing down on Gladiator's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gladiator is fighting to maintain full guard but Williams has managed to sneak the leg through.
Williams passes to full mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gladiator really wants to buck Williams off and get back to his feet.
Williams breaks from Gladiator's wrist control and lands an elbow.
A nice elbow there by Williams.
Williams controlling his opponent.
Gladiator in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Gladiator is trying to stand.
Williams lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Gladiator hang on?


Gladiator is rocked!
Williams takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Oh Gladiator is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Williams postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Gladiator in real trouble here! The ref calls for Gladiator to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joe Williams!
