PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jun Kawasaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sid Mission (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Kawasaki might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Linkin Park - Bleed It Out. Mission has chosen Rodeo Song as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jun Kawasaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sid Mission!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kawasaki lands a right hook to the body.
Mission fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kawasaki throws a sloppy head kick and Mission moves out of range easily.
Kawasaki tries a head kick but it misses.
A swing and a miss from Mission.
Kawasaki dives in and grabs Mission's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mission pushes down on Kawasaki's head and hops out.

Mission takes the fight into the clinch.
Mission wants a takedown.
Kawasaki slowing the pace effectively.
Kawasaki tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Mission can't find room to land a body shot as Kawasaki controls the action.

Mission is trying to trip Kawasaki. He has hold of a leg but Kawasaki is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Mission persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Mission wants to pass the guard but Kawasaki is keeping the position.
Mission stays in close to Kawasaki's body and controls the position.
Mission postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Sid Mission wasn't active enough on the ground.
Kawasaki slips a jab and a cross from Mission.
Mission scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Mission stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Mission misses with an uppercut. Kawasaki saw that one coming.
Kawasaki tries a low kick but Mission avoids it.
Mission bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Mission lands a nice hook to Kawasaki's body. Kawasaki takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kawasaki looks to land a body kick but Mission moved away.

Mission shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kawasaki's guard.

Kawasaki working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mission doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mission manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Mission is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Mission loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Kawasaki looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Mission not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sid Mission dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Kawasaki moves to clinch but Mission breaks away
and Mission counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
A head kick misses from Kawasaki.

Mission closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee asks Mission politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Mission prefers to stall for the moment though.
Mission lands a few punches from side control.
Kawasaki can't do much from the bottom here.
Mission is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Kawasaki on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Kawasaki is trying to get back to half guard.
Kawasaki looking for a sweep but Mission has passed into full mount! Oh no!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mission is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Kawasaki can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Kawasaki is looking to improve his position but Mission isn't that keen on the idea.
Kawasaki manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Kawasaki trying to control but Mission postures up.
Mission is taking a breather. Kawasaki says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Kawasaki has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mission is working away from the top position though.
Mission seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kawasaki does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Mission seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mission throws a lazy right hand but Kawasaki sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Mission gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Sid Mission seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mission wants to take the fight to the mat but Kawasaki manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Mission goes for a takedown attempt but Kawasaki pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Kawasaki wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Mission scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Mission tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kawasaki paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jun Kawasaki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice uppercut lands for Mission. That snapped Kawasaki's head back.
Kawasaki just misses with a punch to the body.
Kawasaki throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Kawasaki is fighting off a takedown attempt but Mission is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Kawasaki to the mat. Kawasaki regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Mission has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Sid Mission has got the better of the ground game so far.
Let's hope that Mission has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Mission takes a swing at Kawasaki's ribcage but misses.
Kawasaki seems to have got his legs back now.
Mission shoots in looking for a takedown. Kawasaki tries to sprawl out of it but Mission keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kawasaki manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Both fighters circling a little - Kawasaki finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Mission misses the jab.
Mission lands a nice shot that snaps Kawasaki's head back.
Mission shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Kawasaki eats them both and turns towards Mission to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Mission lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Kawasaki wants to slow Mission down by chopping away at his legs.
Mission looks to throw the jab but Kawasaki is out of range.

Mission might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Kawasaki throws a push kick but Mission slaps the foot to one side.

Kawasaki had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mission defends it easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mission trying to control the position from guard on top but Kawasaki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kawasaki has momentary wrist control but Mission slips an elbow through the middle.

Kawasaki tries to improve position but can't.
Kawasaki manages to work his way to half guard, despite Mission's best efforts.
Mission is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Kawasaki on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Sid Mission is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Mission has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Mission wants to free his trapped foot but Kawasaki is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Kawasaki is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Mission cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Mission tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sid Mission comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mission has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
