PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Leon Souza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Svend Sved (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Souza comes to the cage accompanied by i am #1. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sved with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Souza shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sved as he avoids it easily.
Sved stuffs the takedown.
Sved tries to clinch up but Souza circles away and keeps his distance.
Sved tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Souza manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sved throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Souza avoids a kick to the body.
Souza tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sved swivels and escapes.

Svend Sved seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sved throws a looping overhand right but Souza ducks down to avoid it.

Sved tries to close the distance and clinch up but Souza swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Souza shoots for a takedown but Sved saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Souza shoots for a double leg takedown but Sved sprawls well. He's pushed Souza's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Sved tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Souza manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sved lands a slapping body shot.
Sved closes the distance but Souza moves to the side
and Souza cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Souza fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Souza throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Horrible takedown by Souza or perhaps it was just good defense by Sved which made him look bad.
Souza fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Souza is breathing heavily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Souza tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sved smiles and moves away.
Sved tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Souza was well out of range. Poor timing from Sved.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Sved drives through and clinches with Souza against the cage.

Sved breaks the clinch.
Souza looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Souza avoids the head kick by Sved.
Sved is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Souza rather than just go for the knockout.

Sved breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Souza shoots in for a takedown but Sved shows good takedown defense.

Sved has taken the fight to the clinch.

Souza shoots in looking for a takedown. Sved tries to sprawl out of it but Souza keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sved manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sved pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Souza shoots in for a takedown but Sved shows good takedown defense.

Sved is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Sved gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Sved lands an elbow just above Souza 's eye.

Sved breaks from the clinch.
Sved fails in his attempt to clinch.
Sved tries to close the distance and clinch but Souza swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A slapping leg kick lands for Sved.
Souza keeps the fight on the outside.
Souza fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sved avoids it really well and circles away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Souza.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sved moves in looking to clinch but Souza pushes him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Svend Sved dominated that round.

Sved breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Sved closes the distance and pushes Souza back into the cage.

Sved pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sved tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Souza paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sved swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Sved tries to clinch but Souza is having none of it.
Sved slaps away a takedown attempt from Souza, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Sved scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Sved gets caught napping as Souza dives in and scores a takedown. Sved manages to retain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Souza drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Souza jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Sved pulls Souza in close to prevent any damage.

Souza is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Souza will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Souza is trying to control the action in half guard but Sved is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Souza tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sved knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Sved is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Souza has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Sved defend it? Souza steps over the head and cranks it - Sved is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Souza!
