PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bayden Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alek Zimmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wood comes to the cage accompanied by kick my ass......rehab. Zimmer has chosen Manowar - Warriors of the World as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bayden Wood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alek Zimmer!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Fedor Mirinova and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wood swings for the body but Zimmer moves out of range.
Wood clobbers Zimmer with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.


It looks like Alek Zimmer has been cut.
No joy there for Zimmer, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
No joy there for Wood, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Zimmer fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A punch lands to the side of Wood 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Zimmer throws a big shot that misses.
Zimmer blocks a head kick by Wood.
Wood lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
A slapping leg kick lands for Wood.
Zimmer misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Wood throws the left hand but Zimmer avoids the punch easily.
Wood slips under a jab from Zimmer.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Zimmer shoots in but Wood avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Wood fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

A combination from Wood does no damage.
Bayden Wood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A punch combination from Wood misses.
Wood tries to bum rush Zimmer with a series of wild strikes but Zimmer uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Zimmer misses with a right hand
and Wood counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Zimmer shoots in for a takedown but Wood shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Wood keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Bayden Wood has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alek Zimmer.
Zimmer slips under a jab.
Wood tries to score a power double leg takedown but Zimmer sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wood somewhat.
Zimmer misses with a wild combination.
Zimmer scores with a jab to the head.

Wood scores with a crisp jab that stopped Zimmer in his tracks.
A combination from Zimmer does no damage.
Wood connects with the punch.
Wood throws a series of punches but Zimmer moves out of range.
Wood looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Wood throws a right hand that Zimmer ducks under and follows up with a left that Zimmer also avoids with ease.

Wood closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Zimmer quickly recovers to half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Zimmer is trying to get back to full guard.
Zimmer regains full guard. Nicely done.
Wood working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Zimmer wants to sweep but no luck.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wood passes Zimmer's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Zimmer regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Wood.

Zimmer has an active guard here but Wood has managed to pass into half guard.

Wood wants to work for an arm triangle but Zimmer is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Wood seems to be working for a kimura but Zimmer defends the submission attempt.
Wood not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Wood takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Zimmer actively working from the bottom here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wood throws a strike but Zimmer avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Wood has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Wood tries to free his leg and advance position but Zimmer is retaining full guard.
Zimmer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Wood is one step ahead there.

Zimmer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wood gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Wood tries to free his leg and advance position but Zimmer is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zimmer manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Zimmer wants to control the pace but Wood is squirming around nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wood tries to hold on but Zimmer pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bayden Wood dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Alek Zimmer's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Wood throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Zimmer counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Wood wants to get back to his feet.
Wood wants to get back to full guard.
Zimmer is looking to take a break and control but Wood is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Zimmer passes to full mount!
Zimmer trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Wood tries to reverse the position but Zimmer maintains control.

Zimmer is looking to work his way around to Wood's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Wood slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Zimmer in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Wood tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Zimmer!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Alek Zimmer!
During a confident post fight interview, Alek Zimmer thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
