PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hubert Rehel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gino Carano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Hubert Rehel has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Hubert Rehel seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gino Carano!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Yves DeLean and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rehel takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Carano tries to bum rush Rehel with a series of wild strikes but Rehel uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Rehel closes this distance looking for a takedown but Carano circles away.

Carano looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Carano moves nicely into side control.

Carano tries for a kimura but Rehel is defending well.
Rehel tries to buck Carano off but Carano is having none of it.

Carano goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Rehel has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Carano but great work by Rehel.
Carano seems a little lost for a moment, as Rehel dominates the positioning.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Carano ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Rehel shoots in for a double leg but Carano sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Carano fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Carano stuffs the takedown attempt from Rehel. Rehel gets slowly back to his feet.
Carano stalks Rehel and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Rehel's face. Rehel staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Hubert Rehel has been cut.
Rehel shoots in for a takedown but Carano shows good takedown defense.
Rehel changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Carano tries to avoid it but Rehel manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Carano to the ground. Carano escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Carano clobbers Rehel with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Rehel uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Carano.

Rehel shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Rehel walks into a stiff left hand from Carano.
Carano looks to land a right hand but Rehel moved out of range.
Carano throws a hook but Rehel avoids it easily.
Rehel doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Rehel closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Carano has control of Rehel's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Rehel regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Rehel on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Rehel tries to get out of the position.

Carano jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Rehel is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Rehel and Carano has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Carano throws a hook to the side of Rehel's head but Rehel sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Rehel takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Carano takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Carano is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Rehel is trying to stick to Carano's back but Carano is turning into Rehel. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Rehel's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Carano.

Rehel looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Carano lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

so Rehel counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Carano has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Rehel should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Carano has tightened it up now! Rehel should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
