The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes fails with a takedown attempt.
Mendes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says HardOne as he avoids it easily.

HardOne drives through with a takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

HardOne avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Mendes is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
HardOne looking to sit in guard and control but Mendes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mendes stands and throws HardOne's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Mendes tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
HardOne gets back to half guard.
Mendes is looking to take a break and control but HardOne is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

HardOne pushes Mendes off and gets back to his feet.
Mendes looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? HardOne is fending him off so far but Mendes persists. Nope, HardOne circles away and we're back to standing.
Cryptik HardOne has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Filipy Mendes.

and HardOne counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mendes won't be happy with that.

Mendes is trying to work for a sweep but HardOne has mounted him!

HardOne lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
HardOne lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Mendes is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
HardOne is landing with some decent strikes but Mendes is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Mendes keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

HardOne lands a big shot there that rocks Mendes but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

HardOne looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
HardOne with shots to the head and body - Mendes looks very uncomfortable down there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
HardOne controlling the pace for now.
HardOne lands with some strikes.
HardOne trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Mendes is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
HardOne is landing with some decent strikes but Mendes is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
