PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joey Riggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Captain Bligh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Riggs comes to the cage accompanied by Eminem - not afraid. Joey Riggs has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joey Riggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Captain Bligh!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Alyssa Summers and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bligh moves out of range of the body kick.
Bligh throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Riggs's waist but Riggs gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bligh off to one side.
No luck for Bligh with that takedown attempt.
Riggs misses with a double jab.
Riggs misses with a wild body shot.
Riggs misses with a left hand

so Bligh counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Riggs preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Bligh working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Bligh postures up in Riggs's guard and throws a big left but Riggs blocks it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Riggs wants to stand up but Bligh is controlling him.

Bligh pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Riggs is keeping the position for now.

Bligh drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bligh jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Riggs is looking to stand up but Bligh isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Bligh is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Riggs has managed to free his arm - good work.
Riggs pushes Bligh off looking to stand but Bligh dives back in and keeps control.

Bligh is keen to just control but Riggs is a slippery customer.

Bligh looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Riggs with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Riggs makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Riggs tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bligh was well out of range. Poor timing from Riggs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Captain Bligh dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Bligh goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Riggs has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Bligh but great work by Riggs.

Captain Bligh has got the better of the ground game so far.

Bligh thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Bligh had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Riggs defends it easily.

Captain Bligh showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Bligh has Riggs pressed against the cage, preventing Riggs from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Riggs looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Riggs is pressed up against the cage. Bligh has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Riggs down to the mat. Riggs avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Bligh closes the distance and clinches up with Riggs, looking for a takedown. Bligh pushes Riggs against the cage but Riggs circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Joey Riggs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Captain Bligh.
Bligh dodges the punch combination from Riggs.
Riggs lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bligh circles away quickly and effectively.

Joey Riggs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bligh is rocked!
A decent looking body kick lands there for Riggs.
Riggs tries to bum rush Bligh with a series of wild strikes but Bligh uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Riggs throws a right and a left that both miss.
Riggs throws a series of punches but Bligh avoids them all with ease.
Bligh gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Riggs scores with a sloppy right hand. Bligh should have avoided that one.
Bligh is still on wobbly legs! Can Riggs finish him?
Joey Riggs is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bligh fails with a takedown attempt.
Bligh seems to have recovered his senses.
Riggs lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Joey Riggs is winning the standup battle so far.
Bligh gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Riggs gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joey Riggs!
In his post fight interview, Joey Riggs started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
