PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jone Hymynaama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fred Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jone Hymynaama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Fred Jones!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Jones.
Hymynaama is looking to regain half guard here but Jones keeps moving and retains side control.
Hymynaama gets back to half guard.

Hymynaama is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Jones pulls his head out easily.
Jones controlling the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Hymynaama wants to sweep but Jones has passed to side control!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hymynaama manages to work his way to half guard, despite Jones's best efforts.
Hymynaama wants to improve his position but Jones is controlling well.
Jones throwing shots but Hymynaama is blocking nicely.
Jones slows the pace down in half guard.
Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hymynaama. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hymynaama looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Hymynaama is breathing heavily.
Jones content to control rather than advance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jones is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Jones takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Jones gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fred Jones dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Hymynaama shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.
Nice sprawl there from Hymynaama as Jones shoots in.

Jones drives through and clinches with Hymynaama against the cage.
Hymynaama drops down looking for an ankle pick but Jones pulls his leg out and moves away.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jone Hymynaama. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones can't break the clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Jones.
Hymynaama tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jones smiles and moves away.
Hymynaama shoots in for a takedown but Jones shows good takedown defense.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hymynaama keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

and Jones counters with a three punch combo that has Hymynaama backing up. Hymynaama nods at Jones to acknowledge the strikes.
Jones tries a low kick but Hymynaama avoids it.

Jones moves into the clinch.
The referee calls for Jones to work.
Jones wants to break free but Hymynaama has control.
Come on Jones - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Hymynaama takes a shot to the head.
Jones lands a left hand.
Jones is trying to break the clinch but Hymynaama has him pressed against the cage.
Jones digs a right hand into Hymynaama's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Hymynaama's gas tank.
Hymynaama prevents Jones from breaking the clinch.
Jones throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Hymynaamas head.
Jones wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Jones working some nice short punches in the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hymynaama tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Jones softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.

Jones is trying to trip Hymynaama. He has hold of a leg but Hymynaama is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Jones persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hymynaama has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Jones is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hymynaama.

Hymynaama is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Still in half guard, Jones seems content to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jones throwing shots but Hymynaama is blocking nicely.
Hymynaama is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jones not doing much here.
Hymynaama is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Jones jumps into side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fred Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Jones pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Jones throws a nice looking combination but Hymynaama bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Jones stuffs the takedown.
Jones rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hymynaama moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Jones fails to land with a series of punches.
Jones misses with an attempted mid kick.

Jones drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Hymynaama is looking for a sweep.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jones is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Hymynaama's shoulder. That is not cool.

Hymynaama is trying to improve his position.
Jones is staying tight to Hymynaama's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Hymynaama regains half guard.
Jones takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hymynaama keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Jones is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Hymynaama is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Jone Hymynaama has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Despite being in the dominant position, Fred Jones just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jones swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jones takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jones showed some decent athleticism there.
Jones passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Hymynaama!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jones controlling the pace for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
Fred Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
