PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Doe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Ferguson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Doe kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is "Can't Be Saved". We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Doe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kevin Ferguson!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Doe throws a head kick that Ferguson semi-blocks.
Doe wants to clinch.

Doe closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ferguson tries to improve position but can't.

Doe stands up and beckons Ferguson to his feet.
Doe shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ferguson as he jumps to the side.
Ferguson tries to clinch up

and Doe counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Ferguson manages to pull guard.
Ferguson wants to stand and escape but Doe is having none of it.
Doe stopping the sweep attempt from Ferguson.
Doe trying to control the position from guard on top but Ferguson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Doe won't allow Ferguson to sweep him here.

Doe stands up from Ferguson's guard - Doe perhaps looking for a knockout.
A right-left combo lands from Ferguson.
Doe looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ferguson is fending him off so far but Doe persists. Nope, Ferguson circles away and we're back to standing.
Ferguson swings for the body but Doe moves out of range.
Ferguson misses with a takedown
and Doe counters with a slapping leg kick.
Ferguson slips a jab and a cross from Doe.
Kevin Ferguson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Doe throws a series of punches but Ferguson avoids them all with ease.

Ferguson scores a takedown into full mount!
Doe is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ferguson is landing with some decent strikes but Doe is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Ferguson wants to control the pace but Doe is squirming around nicely.

Ferguson goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Doe turns into him and now he's in Ferguson's guard.

Ferguson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Doe stands and throws Ferguson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Ferguson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Doe. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Doe decides to stand back up.
Doe changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ferguson tries to avoid it but Doe manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ferguson to the ground. Ferguson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Doe. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Doe tries for a takedown but Ferguson circles away easily

and Ferguson counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Ferguson trying to control the action but Doe is working from the bottom.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Doe is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ferguson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ferguson's back!
Doe has good solid back control here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Doe lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Ferguson hold on?!

Ferguson defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Doe's arms.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ferguson won't enjoy being in this position. Doe looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Ferguson is tapping - it's over boys! Doe picks up the submission victory!
