PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Doe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Choo Riddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Riddell has chosen The Ramones Blitzkrieg Bop as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, John Doe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Choo Riddell!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Atkins and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Doe scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Doe fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Riddell sprawls well initially but Doe persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Doe throwing shots but Riddell is blocking nicely.
Doe is keen to just control but Riddell is a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Riddell is trying to get back to full guard.
Riddell trying to control from the bottom.
Riddell missing with punches from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Riddell tries to roll over but Doe keeps him under control.
Riddell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Doe. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Doe seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Doe trying to control the action but Riddell is working from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Doe moves into range and clinches up with Riddell.

Riddell tightens his grip and picks Doe up, before dumping him to the ground. Doe manages to land in guard.
Doe striking off his back but it's not causing Riddell any problems.
Riddell wants to get up but he can't break Doe's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Riddell won't allow Doe to sweep him here.
Doe utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Doe is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Doe manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Riddell manages to get himself to full guard.
Riddell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Riddell looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Doe passes into side control.
Doe lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Riddell down.
Riddell is looking to regain half guard here but Doe keeps moving and retains side control.
Riddell looks gassed!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Doe tries to move to mount but Riddell blocks the move with his legs.
Doe working away.
Riddell is letting Doe control him for a moment.
Riddell takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Doe trying to control the position but Riddell is working away.
Riddell is looking for a sweep.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Riddell shoots in for a double leg but Doe sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Doe shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Doe misses with a two punch combination.
Riddell tries to clinch there but Doe circles away.
Doe looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Riddell is fending him off so far but Doe persists. Nope, Riddell circles away and we're back to standing.
Riddell scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Doe finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Riddell wants to clinch but Doe slips to the side

and Doe counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Riddell won't allow Doe to pass to mount.
Doe seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Riddell does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Riddell wants to sweep but Doe has passed to side control!

Doe trying to control the position but Riddell is working away.
Doe in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Doe wants to control but Riddell is keeping him busy.

Doe looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Doe is looking to take a break and control but Riddell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Riddell misses with a series of wild punches.

Doe closes the distance and clinches.
Riddell managing to block the knees to the body from Doe.
Doe stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Riddell has had enough of the clinch but Doe keeps him there for the moment.

Riddell breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Doe will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Choo Riddell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Doe feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Riddell's calf.
A nice leg kick lands there from Doe.

Doe gets the takedown into side control.

Doe stands up and beckons Riddell to his feet.
Riddell swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Riddell is breathing heavily.
Doe throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Riddell fails to land with a series of punches.

Doe changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Riddell looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Riddell sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Doe slows the pace down in half guard.
Riddell is looking to control Doe's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Riddell avoid being mounted?
Doe slips a nice elbow through Riddell's hands, connecting with Riddell's forehead.
Riddell is trying to get back to full guard.
Doe stalling.
Doe is looking to take a break and control but Riddell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Doe lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Good leg kick by Doe there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Riddell fails with an attempt to clinch.
Doe shoots in for a takedown but Riddell shows good takedown defense.
Riddell ducks under a wild hook from Doe.
Riddell takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Doe tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
John Doe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Doe darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Doe passes to side control.

Doe just content to control the position.
Riddell is trying to improve his position.
John Doe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Riddell is working to avoid the ground and pound but Doe connects with a decent elbow.
Riddell tries to bench press Doe off him but Doe keeps the position.
Riddell is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Riddell can't do much from the bottom here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Doe working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Doe postures up.
Doe wants to control from the top but Riddell keeps moving.
Doe postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Riddell looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Doe has picked Riddell up and slammed him! Riddell can't keep hold of the triangle and Doe manages to pass to side control!
Doe lands a decent elbow from side control.
Doe tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Doe content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Doe tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Riddell throws a nice looking combination but Doe bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Doe attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Doe throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Riddell lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Riddell walks forward, straight into a front kick from Doe.
Doe with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Doe throws a right and a left that Riddell avoids nicely.
Doe closes the distance looking to clinch

and Riddell counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Doe breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Riddell feints and as Doe raises his hands in defense, Riddell changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Doe avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Riddell postures up.
Doe wants to sweep here but Riddell controlling him for the moment.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Doe doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Riddell keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Doe's head.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Riddell's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Doe is on top in guard.
Doe is working Riddell over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Doe won't allow Riddell to sweep him here.

Riddell looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Doe has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Riddell can't keep his opponent in guard - Doe advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Riddell is looking to control Doe's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Riddell avoid being mounted?

The fighters are battling for position here. Riddell manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Riddell throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Doe stands up over Riddell, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Doe seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Riddell does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Doe closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Riddell to the mat! Riddell manages to get full guard.
Riddell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Doe is looking for a sweep. Riddell is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Doe avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Riddell.

Doe kicks off Riddell and gets to his feet.
Riddell blocks a low kick nicely.
Doe lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Doe throws a nice head kick!
Choo Riddell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Doe connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to John Doe.
Well Doe has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
