PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Steve Cantwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Beavis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Cantwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kevin Beavis!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beavis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cantwell tries to close the distance and clinch but Beavis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Beavis avoids the head kick by Cantwell.

Cantwell is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Beavis defends it well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Cantwell uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Beavis.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cantwell.
Beavis dives in and grabs Cantwell's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cantwell pushes down on Beavis's head and hops out.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Beavis enables Cantwell to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Beavis manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Cantwell gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Cantwell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Beavis pinned against the cage. Beavis gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Beavis missing with a left hand there. Cantwell was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Beavis fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cantwell manages to avoid it.
Cantwell wants to clinch up but Beavis keeps it at a distance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cantwell closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Beavis quickly recovers to half guard.
Cantwell is keen to just control but Beavis is a slippery customer.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cantwell connects with a nice short shot to Beavis's temple.

Cantwell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
