PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Erick Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Laldama Mirapthlak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Laldama Mirapthlak will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Laldama Mirapthlak!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Matheus Silva and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The referee asks Silva politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Silva prefers to stall for the moment though.
Mirapthlak dodges the ground and pound from Silva.
Mirapthlak tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mirapthlak regains half guard there - taking advantage of Silva's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Mirapthlak is looking to control Silva's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mirapthlak avoid being mounted?
Mirapthlak keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Silva looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mirapthlak with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Mirapthlak is concentrating on defense, preventing Silva from advancing position.

Silva has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Mirapthlak works to full guard.

Silva stands and steps away. Mirapthlak gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Silva closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Silva is trying to control the action in half guard but Mirapthlak is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Mirapthlak has a closed guard, preventing Silva from standing up.
Silva stops Mirapthlak from standing up.
Silva wants to get up but he can't break Mirapthlak's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mirapthlak swivels though and keeps the full guard.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Silva here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Silva shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mirapthlak's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Silva tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Mirapthlak avoids it.

Silva jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mirapthlak walks away with a smile on his face. Silva gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Mirapthlak tries to clinch but Silva moves out of range.
Mirapthlak shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Silva defends it nicely.

Silva shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Silva was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Silva is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Mirapthlak is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Erick Silva showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Silva, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
