PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bay Area (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kota Punga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Punga is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: who let the dogs out. Kota Punga told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bay Area!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kota Punga!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Chris Saunders and Josh West.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Punga closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Punga shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Area as he avoids it easily.
Punga will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Punga is trying hard to land a takedown here. Area sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Punga ducks under a wild hook from Area.
Area throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Area throws a series of punches but Punga avoids them all with ease.
Punga shoots for a double leg takedown but Area sprawls well. He's pushed Punga's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Bay Area has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kota Punga.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Area lands a jab to the nose.

Area lands a left and a right that send Punga crashing to the mat, dazed. Area thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Punga is rocked!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Area, right into the meat.
Punga is still on wobbly legs! Can Area finish him?
Punga is trying desperately to land a takedown but Area is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Punga.
Area lands a nice shot to the body.
Punga looks winded!

Area feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Punga sprawling to the canvas! Punga rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Area finish him?!
Punga shoots in for a double leg but Area sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Area fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Punga to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Punga looks to clinch but Area throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Punga taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Bay Area!
Bay Area tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
