Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dan Henderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Henderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Shields!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Henderson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shields sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Henderson somewhat.

Shields fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Henderson, pushing him back against the cage.
Shields dodges an elbow strike from Henderson.
Shields has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Henderson is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Henderson lands a hook that snaps the head of Shields backwards.
Henderson stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Henderson gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Shields.
Henderson content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Henderson is pressed up against the cage. Shields has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Henderson down to the mat. Henderson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Henderson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Shields to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Henderson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Shields but Shields pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Shields shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Henderson has one foot on Shields's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Jason Shields seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Henderson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Shields quickly recovers to half guard.

Shields is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Henderson pulls his head out easily.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Shields in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Shields prevents Henderson from getting back to his feet.

Henderson wriggles free and stands up.
Henderson shoots in for a double leg but Shields sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Shields has Henderson up against the cage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Henderson dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Shields misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Shields stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Shields wants it to stay on the feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Henderson.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shields decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Shields throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Henderson kicks Shields off and gets back to his feet.
Shields misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Shields has Henderson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Henderson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Shields goes for a takedown in the clinch but Henderson prevents it.
The referee is keeping an eye on Henderson - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Shields is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Henderson pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Henderson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Jason Shields showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Henderson misses with a takedown

Shields has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Henderson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shields's waist but Shields gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Henderson off to one side.
