PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Noah Gunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steven Foster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Foster comes into a darkened arena with his song building. gangnam style kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Noah Gunn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Steven Foster!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Micheangelo Fripello and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gunn throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Foster's waist but Foster gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gunn off to one side.
Foster is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Gunn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Foster to the mat! Foster manages to get full guard.
Gunn not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Gunn stops Foster from standing up.
Gunn could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Gunn slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Noah Gunn just wasn't active enough.

Foster fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gunn, pushing him back against the cage.
Foster landing knees to the body.

Gunn is trying to trip Foster. He has hold of a leg but Foster is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Gunn persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gunn's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Noah Gunn wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Gunn misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Foster throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Foster clinches up with Gunn and pushes him back against the cage.

Gunn is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Foster can't fight it off and eventually Gunn manages to take the fight to the floor. Foster looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Gunn slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Gunn won't allow Foster to get back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Noah Gunn wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Gunn closes the distance and clinches.

Gunn wants the takedown. Foster is fighting it off but Gunn persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Foster's guard against the cage.

Gunn is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Gunn passes Foster's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Gunn takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Noah Gunn wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Gunn shoots in and gets a takedown into Foster's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gunn looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Foster looks gassed!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gunn pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Foster is keeping the position for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gunn controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Noah Gunn.
Foster bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Foster closes the distance and clinches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Noah Gunn dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Gunn's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Gunn has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Gunn walks forward, straight into a front kick from Foster.

and Gunn counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Noah Gunn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steven Foster.
Foster is breathing heavily.
Gunn sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Gunn slips nicely into half guard.
Gunn looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Gunn seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Foster for as long as he can get away with.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Gunn stands up and waves to Foster to follow him.

Gunn decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gunn is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Noah Gunn has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Gunn clinches up with Foster and pushes him back against the cage.

Gunn gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Foster regains guard.
Gunn slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gunn advances to half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gunn content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Gunn shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Gunn rushes Foster and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Foster wants to break free but Gunn has control.

Gunn drags the fight down to the ground.
Gunn controlling the position.
Foster wants to control from the top but Gunn keeps moving.
Gunn might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Gunn has a closed guard, preventing Foster from standing up.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Foster takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Gunn shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Foster is trying to defend but Gunn finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Gunn in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Foster tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Gunn!
