The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sonnen throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Awesome counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Awesome.
Awesome has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Awesome is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Awesome shoots in looking for a takedown. Sonnen tries to sprawl out of it but Awesome keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sonnen manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Sonnen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Awesome paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sonnen throws a right and a left that Awesome avoids nicely.

Awesome darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Sonnen tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Awesome manages to move to mount!
Sonnen is bucking up trying to escape but Awesome cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Sonnen is trying to stand but he's just given Awesome his back.
Tommy Awesome overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sonnen is trying to get back to his feet but Awesome has full control of the position and if anything, Sonnen has just worked his way into a worse spot.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Sonnen is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Awesome.

Awesome misses with a takedown attempt - Sonnen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Sonnen has cracked Awesome with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Sonnen lands another huge swinging hook and Awesome tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Awesome, before Sonnen can land any more shots!
