PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Hoehne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fish Nak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Nak's choice of entrance music: GLADIADOR - Now we are free. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matthew Hoehne!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fish Nak!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Emerson Jorge and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nak has his takedown stuffed

and Hoehne counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Nak keeping full guard, as Hoehne tries to pass.
Hoehne lands a couple of digs.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nak wants to sweep here but Hoehne controlling him for the moment.
Nak working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Hoehne.
Hoehne lands a couple of elbows.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hoehne slips nicely into half guard.
Nak regains full guard. Nicely done.
Hoehne in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Hoehne gets to his feet. Nak looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Hoehne feints and as Nak raises his hands in defense, Hoehne changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hoehne wants to pass the guard but Nak is keeping the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hoehne accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hoehne missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Hoehne trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hoehne has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Hoehne trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Hoehne gets to his feet. Nak looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Hoehne shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Hoehne was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Nak looks gassed!
Nak in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Nak tries to lock up and control but Hoehne gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Hoehne swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Nak is now in Hoehne's guard. A big mistake from Hoehne there, giving up the dominant position!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hoehne working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nak doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nak manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Nak looking to pass the guard.

Hoehne looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Nak wants to control from the top but Hoehne keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hoehne looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Nak passes into side control.
Hoehne misses with an elbow from the bottom.
Hoehne is not content to let Nak control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hoehne gets back to half guard.
Hoehne is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Hoehne missing with punches from the bottom.
Hoehne blocking the ground and pound attempt from Nak.
Nak seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Hoehne actively working from the bottom here.

Hoehne has one foot on Nak's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hoehne drives through with a takedown into guard.

Hoehne is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Nak is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Nak has escaped and now he's on top!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nak throws a big elbow that misses.

Hoehne throws his legs up looking for a submission but Nak uses it to pass to side control.
Hoehne sneaks back into half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Nak prevents Hoehne from improving his position.

Hoehne is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Nak pulls his head out easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matthew Hoehne dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nice takedown defense from Nak. No joy for Hoehne on that attempt.

Hoehne drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Hoehne with a flurry of punches that miss.
Nak is trying to control the position but Hoehne postures up.
Nak is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hoehne is controlling him.
Nak tries to strike from the bottom.
Nak wants to sweep here but Hoehne controlling him for the moment.

Hoehne stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Hoehne manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Nak on his heels. He'll look to pass Nak's guard now, I'm sure.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Nak looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Hoehne has picked Nak up and slammed him! Nak can't keep hold of the triangle and Hoehne manages to pass to side control!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hoehne tries for a kimura but Nak is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nak tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hoehne wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Hoehne tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hoehne has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Hoehne is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Nak knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Nak takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hoehne wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Nak, who protects the arm well.
Nak is looking to regain half guard here but Hoehne keeps moving and retains side control.

Hoehne is trying to get an arm triangle but Nak is defending well.
Nak tries to improve position but can't.
Matthew Hoehne overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hoehne tries for a kimura but Nak is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hoehne is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Nak has escaped the position, nice work there.

Hoehne decides to stand back up.

Hoehne clinches up against the cage.

Hoehne pulls guard successfully.
Nak trying to control the position from guard on top but Hoehne is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hoehne is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Nak is aware though and is defending well.

Hoehne is looking for a triangle here but Nak uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Nak throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nak wants to control but Hoehne is keeping him busy.
Hoehne manages to get back to half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Nak decides to stand and escape the position.

Hoehne is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Nak's half guard.
Nak is pressing down on Hoehne's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hoehne in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hoehne postures up in Nak's guard and throws a big left but Nak blocks it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matthew Hoehne dominated that second round.
That's time! Hoehne's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Hoehne misses with a takedown attempt - Nak sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Nak shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Hoehne counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Hoehne is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Nak has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Hoehne is looking to defend but Nak has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Hoehne! Nak pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Hoehne taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:31 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Fish Nak!
