The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Bate fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gracie manages to avoid it.
Gracie is looking to clinch but Bate is avoiding it.
Renato Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bate tries to bum rush Gracie with a series of wild strikes but Gracie uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bate misses with an attempted mid kick.
Gracie keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Gracie scores with a nice head shot.
Gracie looks to throw the jab but Bate is out of range.

A low kick from Gracie is predictable there
and Bate counters with a left to the body.

and Bate makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gracie is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Bate.

Bate misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bate throws a looping overhand right but Gracie ducks down to avoid it.

Oh Bate is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Gracie throws an off balance right hand
and Bate counters with a stiff right hand.
Gracie throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bate sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Bate seems to have got his legs back now.

Bate goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Bate gets clipped by a big right hand and goes down spinning to the canvas! Gracie gets the back mount and begins to drop bombs on his rocked foe! Bate is too out of it to defend against the strikes and the referee jumps in to save him from the beatdown!
