Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vinnie Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Colton Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vinnie Black!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Colton Smith!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Smith is fending him off so far but Black persists. Nope, Smith circles away and we're back to standing.
Smith throws a sloppy head kick
and Black counters with a two punch combo.
Smith shoots for a takedown but Black saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Black circles away from the clinch attempt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Black.
Black throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smith's waist but Smith gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Black off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vinnie Black. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Black plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Black looks for a takedown but Smith sprawls well.
Black shoots in but Smith avoids the takedown attempt easily.

so Smith counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Black is breathing heavily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Smith is stalling in the full guard.

Smith landing with the ground and pound.
Smith wants to pass the guard but Black is keeping the position.
Black trying to keep a closed guard but Smith is proving a slippery customer.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Black is on top in guard.

Smith looking for a sweep. Not yet Smith, not yet.
Smith wants to get back to his feet but Black is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smith can do anything to dispel that myth.
Smith pulls Black in to control the position.
Black wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.

Black got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smith has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Black has managed to get both his arms back between Smith's legs - danger averted.

Smith is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Black has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Smith is proving hard to escape from.
Black trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smith is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Vinnie Black wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Smith bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Black. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Smith cracks Black with a big right hand but Black just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
You can see the frustration on Black's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Black is letting Smith control him for a moment.

Smith wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Black, who protects the arm well.
Black is trying to control Smith's posture but Smith avoids it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Smith thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Black wants to control but Smith postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Smith scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Smith drops an elbow to the side of Black's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Still in half guard, Smith seems content to control.
Smith scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Black regains full guard. Nicely done.
Smith content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Smith stays in close to Black's body and controls the position.

Smith scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Smith wants to pass the guard but Black is keeping the position.
Black bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Smith's guard.
Smith looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Smith is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Black trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.

Black avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Smith keeping moving, preventing Black from controlling successfully.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Smith wants to improve his position but instead Black has moved into half guard.
Smith is trying to maintain the position but Black is very close to passing his half guard.

Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Smith wants to control but Black is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Smith wants to get back to full guard.
Smith is staying active underneath Black, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Smith is looking for a sweep. Black is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Black, as that shot connected.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Black.

Smith drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Smith must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Smith postures up and lands a big shot to Black's brow.

Smith is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Smith wants to pass the guard but Black is keeping the position.

Colton Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Smith throws a push kick but Black slaps the foot to one side.
Black rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Smith moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

and Smith counters with a shoot takedown. Black fights it but they end up in guard.

Smith is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Smith postures up in Black's guard and throws a big left but Black blocks it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Colton Smith hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Black looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Smith is fending him off so far but Black persists. Nope, Smith circles away and we're back to standing.
Smith tries to clinch there but Black circles away.
Smith wants to clinch up but Black keeps it at a distance.

Smith shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Black napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Smith tries to move into full mount but can't pass Black's legs.
Black on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Smith is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Black has escaped the position, nice work there.
Black is being controlled here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith cracks Black with an elbow. That is naaassty.
You can see the frustration on Black's face as Smith controls the position.

Black is pushing Smith's head away, looking to escape. Smith manages to hold on to the position though.

Smith tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smith has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Black tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smith wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Smith tries to stand but Black is controlling his head.

Colton Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
