PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Primo Carnera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carnera comes into the arena with DMX - one more road to cross blaring out of the sound system. Jones has chosen Coming Home as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Primo Carnera had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Primo Carnera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Carnera.
Jones throws a lazy right hand but Carnera sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Carnera misses with a few strikes there.
Carnera throws a right hand that Jones ducks under and follows up with a left that Jones also avoids with ease.
Jones fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Carnera closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jones quickly recovers to half guard.
Jones pushes Carnera off looking to stand but Carnera dives back in and keeps control.

Carnera is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jones is just riding it out for now. Carnera eventually gives up the hold.
Carnera seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jones does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Carnera tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Carnera closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Carnera lands in his opponent's guard.

Carnera might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Carnera here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Jones will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Carnera dips to his left and cracks Jones with an uppercut!
Jones throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Carnera stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
No joy there for Carnera, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Carnera shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones throws a series of punches but Carnera moves out of range.
Carnera fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Primo Carnera. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Carnera keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's time! Carnera's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Carnera changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jones tries to avoid it but Carnera manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jones to the ground. Jones escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Carnera with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Jones scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Carnera with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Jones to score with a decent uppercut.

Carnera shoots in looking for a takedown but Jones manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Carnera's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Carnera doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
