PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Pepe LePew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter McCool (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). LePew comes to the cage accompanied by Smoke Serpent- . McCool has chosen I'm Shipping Up to Boston as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pepe LePew!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Peter McCool!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Alec Ball and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCool is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by LePew.
McCool missing with a left hand there. LePew was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
McCool displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from LePew.
Nice body punch from McCool.
LePew uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McCool.
McCool swings for the body but LePew moves out of range.
McCool misses with a hook. LePew ducked under it nicely.
LePew thumps McCool with a low kick.
The fighters circling - McCool throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

McCool catches LePew with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
McCool throws an uppercut from half a mile away. LePew sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Peter McCool is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
McCool blocks a head kick by LePew.
McCool misses the jab.
McCool throws a lazy right hand but LePew sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
McCool misses the shot to the body.
McCool throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A decent looking cross lands there for McCool.
McCool takes a kick to the side of the head.

LePew thows a body kick. McCool tries to catch it but that hurt him.

McCool throws a lazy right hand but LePew sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

McCool tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but LePew was well out of range. Poor timing from McCool.

McCool misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from LePew.
McCool takes a swing at LePew's ribcage but misses.
McCool misses with a hook.
McCool dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
McCool ducks down and throws a hook to the body but LePew moves away.
LePew drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McCool loads up on a big right hand but LePew slips the punch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter McCool dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



LePew shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

LePew avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

McCool looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

LePew thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
LePew passes McCool's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
LePew tries to pass the half guard into mount. McCool knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

LePew wants to pass the guard but McCool is keeping the position.

LePew got a little sloppy there for a moment and McCool has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, LePew has managed to get both his arms back between McCool's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
LePew wants to control from the top but McCool keeps moving.

McCool is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and LePew defends well.

McCool has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but LePew can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

McCool has his foot on LePew's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. LePew works his way back into a safe position though.

McCool stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. LePew swivels though and keeps the full guard.

LePew is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

McCool is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but LePew pulls his head out easily.
McCool is in trouble now - LePew has advanced to mount!
McCool keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
McCool wants to hold on but LePew pushes him away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McCool is looking to improve his position but LePew isn't that keen on the idea.

That was a close second round but I would say that Pepe LePew will probably get the nod.

LePew with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
McCool throws a looping overhand right but LePew ducks down to avoid it.
Pepe LePew is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
McCool just misses with a punch to the body.
McCool feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits LePews jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
McCool is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by LePew.
McCool throws a big shot that misses.
LePew takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

and LePew counters with a lovely shot to the body.

and LePew makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
McCool misses with an uppercut. LePew saw that one coming.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from McCool in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.
LePew attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
McCool misses the jab.
McCool swings for the body but LePew moves out of range.
LePew bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

LePew changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. McCool looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
McCool tries to improve position but can't.

LePew swings around for an armbar but McCool sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into LePew's guard.

McCool wants to pass the guard but LePew is keeping the position.
McCool takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

LePew utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

LePew had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. McCool defends it easily.

McCool stays in close to LePew's body and controls the position.
McCool tries to free his leg and advance position but LePew is retaining full guard.
LePew wants to hit a switch here but McCool passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for LePew there!
LePew manages to regain half guard. Good work.
LePew manages to get to full guard.
McCool trying to control but LePew is working from the bottom.
LePew lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for McCool!

McCool is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
LePew avoids the attempt from McCool to control.
LePew pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
LePew wants to control the pace but McCool is squirming around nicely.
LePew prevents McCool from getting the reversal.
LePew can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McCool is looking to escape.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Pepe LePew.
I think LePew has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
