PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jayne Cobb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shaibu Amodu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cobb comes to the cage accompanied by The Hero of Canton. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shaibu Amodu!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Damien Edna and Hugh Johnson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cobb swinging wildly here.
Amodu changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cobb tries to avoid it but Amodu manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cobb to the ground. Cobb escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Amodu.
A punch combination from Cobb misses.
Cobb throws a shot from downtown. Amodu moves away and avoids it.
Amodu takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Horrible takedown by Cobb or perhaps it was just good defense by Amodu which made him look bad.
Amodu fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Jayne Cobb has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shaibu Amodu.

Cobb throws a combination that misses
and Amodu counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Cobb looks to land a combination but Amodu avoids it well.
Cobb defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Amodu.
Cobb throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Amodu shoots in for a takedown but Cobb shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A decent looking cross lands there for Cobb.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Amodu is defended easily by Cobb.

Amodu moves into the clinch.

Cobb tries to break the clinch but Amodu is controlling the position.
Cobb is trying to break the clinch but Amodu has him pressed against the cage.
Cobb throws a punch but it's blocked by Amodu.
Cobb tries to break free but Amodu pushes him back against the cage.
Cobb wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Amodu dodges an elbow strike from Cobb.
Amodu prevents a body shot from Cobb.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cobb is trying to stall.

Amodu breaks the clinch.

Amodu shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cobb pinned against the cage. Cobb gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Amodu just misses with a punch to the body.
Amodu shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cobb as he jumps to the side.
Cobb shoots in for a takedown but Amodu shows good takedown defense.

Amodu closes the distance and clinches up with Cobb, looking for a takedown. Amodu pushes Cobb against the cage but Cobb circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Amodu fails to land the takedown.
Amodu will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Cobb misses with a two punch combination.

Amodu looks gassed!
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cobb tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Amodu paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Amodu shoots in but Cobb avoids the takedown attempt easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Amodu tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cobb swivels and escapes.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Cobb here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Amodu circles away from the clinch attempt.

Amodu drives through and clinches with Cobb against the cage.

Cobb wants to break the clinch but can't.
Cobb is trying to maintain a safe position but Amodu gets an underhook and turns Cobb into the cage.

Amodu goes for a takedown attempt but Cobb pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

and Amodu counters by moving into the clinch.
Amodu tries to score a body lock takedown but Cobb shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Amodu changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Cobb fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Amodu is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Cobb.
Amodu is breathing heavily.
Cobb connects with a right that clearly hurt Amodu. He's backed up against the cage with nowhere to go as Cobb proceeds to tee off with vicious combinations till Amodu collapses and taps out under the pressure!
