PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Michael Henry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pencil Neck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Neck has chosen Deep Purple - Bad Attitude as his entrance music. Pencil Neck is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Michael Henry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 22 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pencil Neck!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Sergei Dronov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Henry swings widly with a right hand
and Neck counters with a flying knee. Nice.
A jab from Henry misses.
Neck moves out of range of the strikes.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Neck.

Neck rushes Henry and presses him up against the cage.
Henry tries to break the clinch but Neck is controlling the position.

Henry has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Neck regains guard immediately.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Neck utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Neck is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Henry defends well.

Neck has his foot on Henry's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Henry works his way back into a safe position though.

Neck has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Henry can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Neck tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Neck bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Henry's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neck passes Henry's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Henry is looking to improve his position.

Neck decides to stand up.
Neck lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Henry gets the takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Neck's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Neck is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Henry defends well.
Henry distracts Neck with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Henry postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Neck not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Neck manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Henry manages to get himself to full guard.
Henry utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Henry is working an open guard so Neck takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Henry misses with a few strikes there.
Neck throws a series of punches but Henry avoids them all with ease.

Neck looks for a takedown but Henry sprawls well.
Henry lands a glancing blow to the side of Neck's head.
Some wild striking there from Henry.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Henry slips a jab and a cross from Neck.

Neck is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Neck is looking for a sweep.
Henry tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Henry throws an elbow but Neck slips to the side and avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pencil Neck dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Henry throws the left hand but Neck avoids the punch easily.
Neck shoots in looking for a takedown. Henry tries to sprawl out of it but Neck keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Henry manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Neck stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Neck moves into the clinch.
Neck is looking for a takedown.
Henry wants to break the clinch but can't.
Neck is trying to pull guard but Henry has him pressed against the cage.
Michael Henry has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pencil Neck.
A frustrated look appears on Henry's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Neck manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Henry manages to get himself to full guard.

Henry wants to control but Neck passes easily into half guard.

Neck stands up out of the half guard.
Neck fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Neck tries to clinch there but Henry circles away.
Henry scores with the left hand. Neck knows he should have avoided that one.
Pencil Neck seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Neck fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Neck blocks a low kick nicely.
Henry blocks a jab.
Henry throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Neck sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Henry stalks Neck and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Neck's face. Neck staggers backwards, shaken.
Henry lands with a cross.

Henry bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Henry misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Pencil Neck has got the better of the ground game so far.
Henry cracks Neck with a big elbow.
Henry creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Henry is trying to ground and pound but Neck uses the momentary lack of control by Henry to regain half guard.

Neck has one foot on Henry's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Henry throws a combination that misses

and Neck counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Neck decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A low kick from Henry is predictable there

and Neck counters by moving into the clinch.
Neck keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Henry's efforts to push away.
Neck wants to take the fight to the mat but Henry manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Neck lands a hook that snaps the head of Henry backwards.

Henry's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Henry misses with a looping left.
Henry takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Neck gets control of Henry's arms and successfully pulls guard. Neck will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Neck is trying to keep Henry in close.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pencil Neck showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Neck jumps guard and drags Henry to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Neck wants to stand and escape but Henry is having none of it.
Neck takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Neck working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Henry doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Neck is tightening it up a little... Henry has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Henry reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Henry taps out! Nice BJJ there by Neck!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Pencil Neck!
An out of breath Pencil Neck thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
