The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Matveyev shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mitchell napping and manages to drive through into side control!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Matveyev tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The ground and pound from Matveyev seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Matveyev advances to mount.
Mitchell holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Matveyev tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Matveyev wants to finish this one by submission but Mitchell is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Matveyev.
Matveyev takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Matveyev cracks Mitchell with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Yegor Matveyev wasn't active enough on the ground.
Matveyev shoots in for a double leg but Mitchell sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Mitchell lands a big head kick that sends Matveyev tumbling to the mat! Mitchell takes a step backwards and waves Matveyev back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Yegor Matveyev has been cut.

Matveyev closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Let's hope that Matveyev has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Mitchell is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Matveyev postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mitchell looks a forlorn figure.

Mitchell lands a brutal head kick. Matveyev looks out on his feet and Mitchell throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
