PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alik Balvanik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wilson Fisk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Balvanik comes to the cage accompanied by the eye of tiger. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Wilson Fisk!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fisk pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Balvanik takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Wilson Fisk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Balvanik ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Balvanik shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Balvanik was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Balvanik is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Fisk is surviving well by controlling Balvanik's body position as best he can.

Fisk takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Balvanik has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Balvanik breaks from Fisk's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Balvanik takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Balvanik has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Fisk gets caught flat footed, as Balvanik shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Fisk can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Balvanik controls the pace.

Balvanik is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Balvanik thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Fisk really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Balvanik. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Fisk throws a half hearted mid kick.
Fisk tries to score with a low kick but Balvanik moves his leg out of the way.

Balvanik throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Fisk was covering up waiting for the punch and Balvanik finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Balvanik controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Balvanik drops back looking for a leg! Fisk is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Fisk manages to kick Balvanik off! Balvanik jumps back into Fisk's guard.

Balvanik looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Fisk misses with a kick to the body

so Balvanik counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Alik Balvanik overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Balvanik passes Fisk's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Balvanik is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Fisk has managed to free his arm - good work.
Well, if Balvanik is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Balvanik has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Fisk takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Fisk wants to control but Balvanik is having none of it.

Balvanik is landing with some decent strikes but Fisk is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Balvanik has isolated one of Fisk's arms. Fisk looking to fight him off but Balvanik twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!

Alik Balvanik spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
