Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chase Mathis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Jeff Smith and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva is looking to clinch.
Mathis on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Silva wants to clinch.
Silva dives in and grabs Mathis's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mathis pushes down on Silva's head and hops out.
Mathis avoids the head kick by Silva.
Silva uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mathis.
Silva gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Mathis counters with a single leg into guard. Silva didn't expect that.
Silva tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Silva is working an open guard so Mathis takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mathis fails with the takedown.
Silva looks for a takedown but Mathis sprawls well.

Mathis seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Silva trying to keep a closed guard but Mathis is proving a slippery customer.
Silva is breathing heavily.
Mathis is pushing down on Silva's leg trying to pass to half guard. Silva is fighting to maintain full guard but Mathis has managed to sneak the leg through.
Silva is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mathis pulls his head out easily.
Mathis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Mathis decides to stand and escape the position.
Mathis clinches up with Silva and pushes him back against the cage.
Mathis ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mathis no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Mathis wants to sweep here but Silva controlling him for the moment.

Silva trying to control but Mathis is working from the bottom.
Silva has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Mathis is pulling down on Silva's head to control his posture.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Mathis looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Mathis fails with an attempt to clinch.
Silva shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mathis's guard.
Mathis pulls Silva in close to prevent any damage.
Mathis keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully.

Silva is posturing up here but Mathis has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Silva tries to roll out but it's too tight and Silva has to tap! Slick submission there by Mathis!
