Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Antonio Nunes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Pinto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nunes kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Pitbull- Hey Baby. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

With a record of 17 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Pinto!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Thiago Cunha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nunes throws a nice looking combination but Pinto bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Nunes is trying hard to land a takedown here. Pinto sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Nunes throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Pinto shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Nunes is trying to defend but Pinto finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jose Pinto wasn't active enough on the ground.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Nunes.
Nunes displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Pinto.
No joy there for Nunes, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Pinto closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Nunes did well to prevent Pinto getting side control.
Pinto wants to free his trapped foot but Nunes is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jose Pinto hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Pinto scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Nunes looks to land a combination but Pinto avoids it well.

Nunes throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Pinto was covering up waiting for the punch and Nunes finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pinto tries to land a sweep but no joy.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Antonio Nunes.

Pinto leaves Nunes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Antonio Nunes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Pinto fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Nunes sprawls well initially but Pinto persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pinto is keen to just control but Nunes is a slippery customer.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Pinto in particular looking to stall.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Pinto is taking a breather. Nunes says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Nunes wants to clinch up but Pinto keeps it at a distance.
Pinto ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Jose Pinto seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Nunes misses with a series of wild punches.
Nunes lands a jab to the nose.
Pinto connects with a body shot that sends Nunes's belly button to the back.
Nunes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pinto as he avoids it easily.
Nunes misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Nunes scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Nunes swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Nunes misses with a two punch combination.

Pinto looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Nunes!

Pinto looking to control and managing it successfully.

Pinto is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Nunes to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Nunes shrugs it off.
Pinto seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Nunes is holding on tight.
Pinto tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Nunes is bucking up trying to escape but Pinto cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Pinto thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Pinto goes for an armbar but Nunes turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Nunes.

Pinto looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Nunes gets to his feet - Pinto follows without any prompting.
Nunes misses with a jab, cross combination.
A shot to the liver by Pinto. Beautiful body shot.

Nunes closes the distance and pushes Pinto back into the cage.

Nunes has a couple of punches blocked by Pinto.
Pinto is trying to drag Nunes to the mat but Nunes just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Pinto wants to take the fight to the mat but Nunes manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Pinto breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Pinto scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Pinto bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Antonio Nunes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nunes tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pinto sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Nunes somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Antonio Nunes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nunes pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Pinto back to the cage. Nunes follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Antonio Nunes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
