PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Captain Caveman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Caveman comes to the cage accompanied by Captain Caveman Intro. Jackson has chosen KRS One - Step Into a World as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Captain Caveman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caveman throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Caveman connects with a single shot there.
Caveman throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Jackson lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A head kick misses from Caveman.
Caveman ducks under a wild hook from Jackson.

A telegraphed right hand from Jackson misses the target.
Jackson misses with an uppercut. Caveman saw that one coming.
Jackson steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Caveman. That one must have hurt.
Jackson takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Jackson lands with a cross.
Jackson takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Horrible takedown by Jackson or perhaps it was just good defense by Caveman which made him look bad.

Jackson throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Caveman tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Caveman wants to control but Jackson postures up.
Caveman gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Jackson is looking to advance position but Caveman won't allow it.
Caveman looks like he's trying to stand up.
Well, if Jackson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Caveman trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Jackson manages to pass to mount!

Caveman is trying to control the position but Jackson postures up.
Jackson is fighting to break Caveman's control of his arms but Caveman is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Caveman not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Captain Caveman wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Caveman wants to land a leg kick but Jackson is out of range.
Caveman is looking to land body kicks.
Captain Caveman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Caveman lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Jackson has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Jackson and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Jackson keeps the fight on the outside.
Captain Caveman is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Caveman misses with an uppercut. Jackson saw that one coming.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Caveman, right into the meat.
Caveman takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Caveman on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Jackson throws an off balance right hand
and Caveman counters with an outside leg kick.
Jackson staying out of range there.
Jackson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Caveman sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Caveman throws a low kick, looking for Jackson's leg but Jackson calmly moves out of range.
Jackson fails with a takedown attempt.
Jackson gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Caveman.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Caveman connects with a solid leg kick.
Caveman misses with a kick to the body.
Caveman ducks under a wild hook from Jackson.
Caveman moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Caveman takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jackson looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Nice sprawl there from Caveman as Jackson shoots in.
Captain Caveman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Jackson.
Caveman blocks a jab.
Caveman throws a leg kick which misses Jackson's front leg but catches the back leg as Jackson tries to avoid it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Captain Caveman dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Jackson might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
A looping hook to the body misses from Caveman. Jackson does a little dance to reset his feet.

Caveman throws a head kick but Jackson moves out of range.
Jackson misses with a hook. Caveman ducked under it nicely.
Jackson drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Jackson shoots in and gets a takedown into Caveman's guard.
Jackson is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jackson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Jackson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

We're going to have a standup here because Captain Caveman wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Jackson throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Caveman stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Jackson misses the jab.
Caveman moves out of range as Jackson strikes.
Jackson swats away the attempt to clinch by Caveman.
Caveman lands a head kick. Jackson smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Jackson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Caveman tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jackson is in Caveman's guard.
Caveman is trying to keep Jackson in close.

Caveman avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Caveman is controlling Jackson's posture.
Jackson trying to control but Caveman is working from the bottom.
Caveman is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Captain Caveman.

and Jackson counters with a nice uppercut.

Caveman lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Jackson misses with a takedown attempt - Caveman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Caveman has managed to clinch.
Jackson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Caveman misses with a knee strike.
Caveman with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Jackson dodges an elbow strike from Caveman.
Jackson has had enough of the clinch but Caveman keeps him there for the moment.
Caveman scores a nice knee to the body.
Jackson is trying to drag Caveman to the mat but Caveman just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Jackson is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Jackson on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Caveman gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jackson is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Caveman is keeping busy.

Jackson takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Jackson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Jackson throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Caveman throws a shot from downtown. Jackson moves away and avoids it.
Jackson sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Caveman throws a front kick that sends Jackson stumbling back into the cage.
Jackson ducks right into an uppercut from Caveman.
Jackson blocks a head kick by Caveman.
Caveman throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jackson loads up on a big right hand but Caveman slips the punch.

Jackson's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
A big left from Jackson misses.

and Caveman cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Jackson looks for a takedown but Caveman sprawls well.
Caveman lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Caveman tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Jackson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

A head kick from Caveman lands but Jackson takes it in his stride.
Jackson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Caveman.
Caveman dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Jackson. That did some damage!
Jackson jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Jackson looks to throw the jab but Caveman is out of range.
Jackson on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Captain Caveman showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Caveman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
