PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between James Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikolaj Marnicki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brown kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is James brown - Superbad. James Brown has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, James Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mikolaj Marnicki!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Tarja Halkonen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Brown looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Marnicki drives through with a takedown into guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Marnicki wanted to stand there but Brown had control of the position.
Marnicki is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Let's hope that Marnicki has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mikolaj Marnicki was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Brown closes the distance looking to clinch
and Marnicki counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Brown thinking.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Marnicki fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Brown, pushing him back against the cage.
Brown misses with a knee strike.

Marnicki is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Marnicki has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Brown regains guard immediately.
Marnicki seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Marnicki wants to pass the guard but Brown is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Marnicki throws a big right hand that misses.
Brown has a closed guard, preventing Marnicki from standing up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Marnicki looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mikolaj Marnicki wasn't active enough on the ground.

Brown gets tackled into the cage by Marnicki. Marnicki maintains the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Marnicki lands a shot to the body.
Marnicki wants to break free but Brown has control.
A right hook to the body lands for Marnicki.

Marnicki has hold of one of Brown's legs. Brown is fighting the takedown attempt but Marnicki gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Marnicki wants to pass the guard but Brown is keeping the position.
Marnicki sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
It looks like Marnicki might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mikolaj Marnicki hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Marnicki has taken the fight to the clinch.

Marnicki's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Marnicki moves into the clinch.
Brown tries to land a knee to the head but Marnicki blocks with his arms.
Marnicki lands with a left to the head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Marnicki misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Brown.

Marnicki has clasped his hands together around Brown's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mikolaj Marnicki dominated that round.

and Marnicki counters with a big left hand that crumples Brown! He was out before he hit the floor! Brutal knockout!
