PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Robert Langdon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henry Charles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Charles has chosen Don't Fake the Funk by Prince Charles as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Robert Langdon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Henry Charles!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Ian Loll and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Charles lands with a straight right. Langdon didn't see that one coming.
Henry Charles seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A slow jab from Langdon misses its intended target.
Charles checks a leg kick.
Charles has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Langdon finds it's way round the side to connect with Charles's head.

Charles clinches with his opponent.
Charles can't find room to land a body shot as Langdon controls the action.
Charles misses with a hook from the clinch.
Charles misses with a hook to the ribs.
Charles stops a takedown attempt from Langdon.
Langdon wants a takedown.
Langdon on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Langdon is trying to pull guard but Charles has him pressed against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robert Langdon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

It looks like Robert Langdon has been cut.
Charles is pressed up against the cage. Langdon has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Charles down to the mat. Charles avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Langdon dodges the punch combination from Charles.
Langdon misses with a hook. Charles ducked under it nicely.
Langdon fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Charles's corner calls for a 1-2. Charles obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Langdon stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Charles.
Langdon misses with an uppercut
and Charles counters with a left to the body.
Horrible takedown by Langdon or perhaps it was just good defense by Charles which made him look bad.
Charles throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Charles keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Charles moves into the clinch successfully.
Langdon tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Charles smiles and moves away.
Charles throws a hook but Langdon avoids it easily.
Charles throws out a powerful jab.
Charles defending well as Langdon loads up on a big left hand.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Charles ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Charles throws a body punch but Langdon moves out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Charles misses the target.
Langdon tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Charles swivels and escapes.
A big left from Charles misses.
Charles lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Langdon closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Langdon lands in his opponent's guard.

Charles has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Langdon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Charles wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Charles is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Charles pulls Langdon in to control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Charles fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Langdon on the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Henry Charles dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Robert Langdon's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Charles lands a jab.
Charles is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Langdon will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Charles ducks under a wild hook from Langdon.
Langdon fails to land the takedown.
Langdon scores with a nice strike.
No joy there for Charles, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Langdon.

Charles darts in and clinches Langdon up against the cage.

Langdon ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Langdon no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Langdon is looking to stand up but Charles isn't so interested in that idea.

Langdon misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Langdon lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
BOOM! Langdon connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Charles is trying to escape the mount.

Langdon goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Charles is on top in guard.

Charles is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Charles looking to sit in guard and control but Langdon gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Langdon postures up and lands a big shot to Charles's brow.
Langdon content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Langdon throws a strike but Charles rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Langdon is looking for a triangle but Charles pushes his legs off easily.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Charles slips under a jab from Langdon.
Langdon throws the left hand but Charles avoids the punch easily.
Charles changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Charles uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Langdon.
Charles throws a big shot that misses.
A lazy left from Charles finds it's target.
Langdon shoots in looking for a takedown. Charles tries to sprawl out of it but Langdon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Charles manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Charles scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Charles punishes Langdon's body with a nice straight punch.
Charles avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Charles displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Langdon.
Henry Charles seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Langdon ducks under a wild hook from Charles.
Charles throws a big shot that misses.
Charles bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Langdon's head backwards.
No joy there for Charles, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Charles moves in looking to clinch but Langdon pushes him off.
Charles throws a head kick that Langdon semi-blocks.
Langdon looks for a takedown but Charles sprawls well.
Langdon is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Charles connects with a crisp jab.


Langdon is rocked!
Langdon walks straight into a right hand from Charles - that's dropped him! Charles jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Langdon from any more punishment! Langdon complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Henry Charles!
A very excited looking Henry Charles made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
