The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Mendez.
Mendez looks to land a combination but Santos avoids it well.
Santos moves out of range of the body kick from Mendez.
Mendez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Santos takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Santos shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mendez but Mendez pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Santos avoids the head kick by Mendez.
Mendez misses with a wild combination.
Santos is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Mendez.
Mendez scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Santos looks for a takedown but Mendez sprawls well.

Mendez fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Mendez dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Santos. That did some damage!
Santos tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mendez swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Antonio Santos. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mendez scores with a spinning back kick!
Santos is breathing heavily.
Mendez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

and Mendez counters with a series of strikes. Santos will be more careful next time no doubt.

Mendez lands a big head kick that sends Santos tumbling to the mat! Mendez takes a step backwards and waves Santos back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Santos could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Santos gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Mendez counters with a series of strikes that practically lifts Santos off his feet! He tumbles backwards, his head bouncing off the mat - Mendez follows up with more strikes before the ref can step in but Santos was out before he hit the floor.
