PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bert Halvorsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Felipe Frulani (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bert Halvorsen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Felipe Frulani!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Aafke Stam and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Halvorsen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Frulani paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Halvorsen looks to land a right hand but Frulani moved out of range.
Halvorsen throws a head kick but Frulani moves out of range.
Halvorsen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Halvorsen shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Frulani as he jumps to the side.

Frulani tries for a takedown but Halvorsen sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Frulani tried to score with a low kick but Halvorsen checks it.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Frulani lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Halvorsen has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Halvorsen and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Frulani has taken the fight to the clinch.

Frulani wants a takedown but no success here.
Halvorsen drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bert Halvorsen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Frulani makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Frulani.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Frulani working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Halvorsen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Halvorsen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Frulani is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Halvorsen wants to control from the top but Frulani keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Frulani had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Halvorsen defends it easily.

Frulani is not content to let Halvorsen control the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Frulani is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The strikes coming from Halvorsen are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Halvorsen lands a nice forearm strike.

Frulani tries to improve position but can't.
Frulani is pushing Halvorsen's head away, looking to escape. Halvorsen manages to hold on to the position though.
Halvorsen works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Frulani is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Halvorsen creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Halvorsen lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Frulani down.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Halvorsen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Frulani tries to sprawl but Halvorsen drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Frulani is trying to control the position but Halvorsen postures up.
Frulani is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Halvorsen slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Halvorsen content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Halvorsen loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Frulani has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Halvorsen doesn't defend quickly enough and Frulani has managed to lock this one up! Can Halvorsen escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Frulani on a fantastic submission victory.
