Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joe Macconi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michak Ropuia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ropuia has chosen Here comes the pain - Slayer as his entrance music. Michak Ropuia has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Joe Macconi's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joe Macconi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Michak Ropuia!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Sosuke Kotani and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ropuia tries for a takedown but Macconi circles away easily

and Macconi counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Ropuia looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Macconi pushes past his half guard into mount!
Macconi controlling the position easily from mount.
Macconi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ropuia on the ground.
Ropuia is looking to improve his position but Macconi isn't that keen on the idea.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ropuia is desperately trying to improve his position but Macconi has a good base and remains in mount.

Ropuia is in all sorts of trouble here.
Macconi lands a nice shot to the head.
Ropuia slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Macconi tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Ropuia.
Macconi is nestled in close to Ropuia, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Ropuia scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Macconi manages to mount him!

Ropuia slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Macconi is trying to control the action in half guard but Ropuia is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Macconi stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Ropuia tries to score a power double leg takedown but Macconi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ropuia somewhat.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ropuia enables Macconi to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ropuia manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Macconi trying to control the position from guard on top but Ropuia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Macconi won't allow Ropuia to get back to his feet.
Macconi is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Ropuia working for a triangle but Macconi defends it easily.
Ropuia wants to sweep but no luck.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ropuia working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Macconi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Macconi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ropuia has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Macconi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Macconi decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ropuia, up you get!

Ropuia is refusing to be controlled, as Macconi sits in half guard.
Ropuia wants to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Macconi is keen to just control but Ropuia is a slippery customer.

Ropuia actively working from the bottom here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Macconi decides to return to a standing position.

Macconi shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Macconi showed some decent athleticism there.
Ropuia is looking for a sweep. Macconi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ropuia gets full guard.

Ropuia had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Macconi defends it easily.
Ropuia manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Macconi manages to get himself to full guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Macconi is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ropuia is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Macconi dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Macconi doesn't manage to clinch there - Ropuia circles away.
Ropuia shoots in but Macconi avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Macconi is looking to clinch but Ropuia is avoiding it.
Ropuia looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Macconi is fending him off so far but Ropuia persists. Nope, Macconi circles away and we're back to standing.

Joe Macconi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michak Ropuia.

Macconi decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ropuia, up you get!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Ropuia tries to kick Macconi off but Macconi keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Ropuia is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ropuia works his way to full guard. Good work.

Ropuia escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Macconi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ropuia working for submissions but it's allowed Macconi to get to half guard.
Ropuia is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Macconi's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Macconi's back!
You can see the frustration on Macconi's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Macconi is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Macconi controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

Ropuia is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Macconi won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Ropuia off his unconscious opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Michak Ropuia!
