The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burger keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Makarow ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Burger moves away.
Burger takes one to the side of the head.

Makarow rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Burger moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

and Burger counters with a shoot takedown. Makarow fights it but they end up in guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Burger tries to free his leg and advance position but Makarow is retaining full guard.
Burger wants to get up but he can't break Makarow's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Makarow lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Burger!

Burger wants to hold on but Makarow pushes him away.
Burger is in all sorts of trouble here.
Makarow takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Burger is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Let's hope that Makarow has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Nikolai Jegorowitsch Makarow hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
