The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malik lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Malik.

Oooh a lovely combination from Malik sends Sato down but not out. Malik dives into side control looking to finish.

It looks like Mana Sato has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Malik gets to his feet. Sato looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Malik moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Sato tries for a takedown but Malik sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Sato shoots in but no luck this time.

Sato bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Sato tries to score with some ground and pound. Malik controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

A close round but Sam Malik will probably get the nod.

Sato tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Malik swivels and escapes.
Sato changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Malik tries to avoid it but Sato manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Malik to the ground. Malik escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Malik misses with a few strikes there.
Nice takedown defense from Malik. No joy for Sato on that attempt.
