Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lex Scrappy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wikus Van Der Merwe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lex Scrappy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wikus Van Der Merwe!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Aleksandr Martynov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Der Merwe is looking to clinch.

Scrappy instigates a clinch.

Scrappy is trying to trip Van Der Merwe. He has hold of a leg but Van Der Merwe is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Scrappy persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Scrappy shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Van Der Merwe manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Van Der Merwe bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Scrappy's guard.

Scrappy wants to sweep but no luck.
Van Der Merwe wants to get up but he can't break Scrappy's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Scrappy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Van Der Merwe on the ground.

Scrappy is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Lex Scrappy wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Van Der Merwe is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Van Der Merwe tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Scrappy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Scrappy goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Van Der Merwe turns into him and now he's in Scrappy's guard.

Scrappy lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Scrappy, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
