PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Forrest Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Griffin comes into the arena with Killing In The Name blaring out of the sound system. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Michael Scott was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Forrest Griffin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Michael Scott!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yukihiro Shimada and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scott takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Griffin throws a shot to the body.
A looping hook to the body misses from Scott. Griffin does a little dance to reset his feet.
Scott takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Griffin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A lazy left from Griffin finds it's target.


It looks like Michael Scott has been cut.
Griffin throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Scott swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Scott gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Griffin.
Griffin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Griffin, right into the meat.
Griffin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Griffin lands a head kick. Scott smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Scott is rocked!
Griffin misses with a body kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Scott takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Griffin throws a series of punches but Scott moves out of range.
Scott changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Griffin throws a sloppy head kick and Scott moves out of range easily.
Scott swings for the body but Griffin moves out of range.
Griffin ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Forrest Griffin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Griffin tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Scott is able to avoid easily.
Griffin shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
A shot to the liver by Griffin. Beautiful body shot.
Griffin tries a head kick but it misses.
Scott punishes Griffin's body with a nice straight punch.
Griffin misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Griffin fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Scott has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Griffin motions for Scott to come forward. Griffin throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Griffin keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

A chopping leg kick lands by Griffin.
Griffin lands a head kick. Scott smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Griffin pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Scott misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Griffin.
Griffin fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.


That has opened up Michael Scott's cut even more.
Scott throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Scott is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Griffin.
Griffin lands a head shot.
Griffin feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Scotts jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Scott misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Griffin.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nice shot lands for Griffin.
Griffin goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Scott shoots in and bounces Griffin off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Griffin is pulling down on Scott's head to control his posture.
Scott preventing the sweep.
Scott wants to control from the top but Griffin keeps moving.
Scott slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Griffin wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Forrest Griffin has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Scott stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Scott fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Griffin avoids it really well and circles away.
Griffin lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Griffin, right into the meat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Scott takes a kick to the side of the head.
Nice body kick there by Griffin.
Scott looks winded!
Griffin lands a jab to the head.
Scott is still on wobbly legs! Can Griffin finish him?


The cut above Michael Scott's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Griffin uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Scott.
A big left from Scott misses.
Scott seems to have recovered his senses.
Forrest Griffin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Griffin thumps Scott with a low kick.
Griffin shoots in for a takedown but Scott shows good takedown defense.
Griffin throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Griffin.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Forrest Griffin dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Michael Scott's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!



Griffin drops Scott with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Scott looks back up at him and smiles so Griffin waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Griffin misses with a two punch combination.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The fighters circle, before Griffin throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Scott's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Griffin lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!
