The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson darts in trying to clinch

so Avila counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Avila trying to control the position from guard on top but Thompson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Avila has gone for a leg lock! Thompson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Avila's guard.

Avila has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Thompson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Avila is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Thompson defends well.
Thompson's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Avila wants to sweep here but Thompson controlling him for the moment.

Avila is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Thompson is aware though and is defending well.
Avila is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Tom Thompson has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Thompson closes the distance but Avila moves to the side

and Avila counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Avila.
