PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Steve Cantwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Amon Ra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Cantwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Amon Ra!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cantwell tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ra swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ra defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cantwell.
Cantwell takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Cantwell avoids the head kick by Ra.
Cantwell goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like Amon Ra has been cut.

Ra fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cantwell, pushing him back against the cage.

Ra breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cantwell breaks from the clinch.
Cantwell lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Cantwell shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ra defends it nicely.
Amon Ra seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ra slips a jab and a cross from Cantwell.

Ra feints and then cracks Cantwell's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Cantwell down.
Cantwell looks for a takedown but Ra sprawls well.

Ra stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ra wants it to stay on the feet.

Ra stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cantwell swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Cantwell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ra's guard.

and Ra counters with a low kick, right behind Cantwell 's knee.
Ra lands with a nice body kick.

Ra closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Ra just misses with a elbow thrown towards Cantwell's brow.
Ra using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Cantwell has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Ra's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A clash of legs there as Ra blocks the low kick.
A solid body kick from Ra.
Ra scores with a head kick. Cantwell tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
This has been an exciting period of action!
No luck for Cantwell with that takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ra can do anything to dispel that myth.

Steve Cantwell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Cantwell is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
