PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Robbie McStar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lath Hoy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hoy comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Go Ninja-Vanilla Ice kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Robbie McStar has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Robbie McStar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 16 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Lath Hoy!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Steve Erwin and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McStar throws a hook but Hoy blocks it.
McStar fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hoy scores with a punch to the head.
McStar keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
McStar fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A telegraphed right hand from Hoy misses the target.
Hoy misses with a body shot.
Good standup being displayed there by Hoy as he connects with a hook.
Hoy displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from McStar.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robbie McStar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hoy takes a swing at McStar's ribcage but misses.
McStar looks for a takedown but Hoy sprawls well.
Hoy misses with a wild body shot.
McStar scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
A jab from Hoy finds it's way through McStar's defenses.
McStar uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hoy.
McStar takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McStar tries for a takedown but Hoy circles away easily
and Hoy counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Hoy closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into McStar's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Hoy trying to control but McStar is working from the bottom.
McStar looking for a sweep. Not yet McStar, not yet.
Hoy won't allow McStar to get back to his feet.
Hoy trying to control the position from guard on top but McStar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Lath Hoy has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
McStar shoots in for a takedown but Hoy shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
McStar shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hoy pinned against the cage. Hoy gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hoy lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as McStar backs up against the cage.
McStar tries to clinch but Hoy moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hoy swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Hoy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McStar but McStar pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hoy has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
McStar looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hoy is fending him off so far but McStar persists. Nope, Hoy circles away and we're back to standing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hoy lands a nice shot to the body.
McStar throws a lazy uppercut

and Hoy counters with a shoot takedown. McStar fights it but they end up in guard.
Hoy passes into half guard.

Hoy is looking for a kimura here.

Hoy is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and McStar defends it well.
Hoy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but McStar does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Hoy is working for a submission of some sort.

Hoy is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so McStar is just riding it out for now. Hoy eventually gives up the hold.
Hoy prevents McStar from standing back up.
McStar wants to improve his position but Hoy is controlling well.
McStar wants to control but Hoy is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hoy is looking for a kimura but McStar is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hoy to get the leverage.
McStar is trying to control but can't.
Hoy works his foot free and advances to mount.

Hoy is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. McStar can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
McStar is in all sorts of trouble here.
Hoy can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McStar is looking to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hoy jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but McStar manages to avoid the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lath Hoy dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


McStar looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Hoy counters with a single leg into guard. McStar didn't expect that.

Hoy seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hoy wants to control from the top but McStar keeps moving.
Lath Hoy has got the better of the ground game so far.
McStar looking for a sweep. Not yet McStar, not yet.
Hoy trying to control but McStar is working from the bottom.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
McStar keeping full guard, as Hoy tries to pass.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Lath Hoy.
McStar displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hoy.

Hoy throws a body punch but McStar moves out of range.

and Hoy counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Hoy looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
McStar is trying to stand back up but Hoy is controlling him
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McStar is staying active underneath Hoy, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Hoy is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

McStar flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Hoy is keen to just control but McStar is a slippery customer.
McStar tries to kick Hoy off but Hoy keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
McStar throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Hoy is trying to control the action in half guard but McStar is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Hoy passes into side control, despite McStar's attempt to control the position.

Hoy working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
McStar misses with an elbow from the bottom.

Hoy swings around for an armbar but McStar sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Hoy's guard.
McStar lands a couple of elbows.
Hoy is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Hoy looking for submissions from the bottom but instead McStar passes into side control.
McStar working the head with strikes.
McStar lands some shots froms side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McStar cracks Hoy with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Hoy is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked McStar off and has taken his back!

Hoy looking for the choke but no joy.
McStar trying to get back to his feet but Hoy is in full control for now.

Hoy is trying to stick to McStar's back but McStar is turning into Hoy. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Hoy's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by McStar.
McStar scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Hoy working for submissions but it's allowed McStar to get to half guard.
Hoy works his way to full guard. Good work.

Hoy is looking to sinch up a triangle. McStar throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Hoy's body to avoid the submission. Hoy has instead reached around McStar's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Hoy arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Lath Hoy!
